LAWA‘I — A 26-year-old Kalaheo man was arrested yesterday for a hit-and-run accident on Koloa Road in the early morning that left one person injured.
The driver, whose identity was not released by county officials, was charged with first-degree negligent injury and accident involving substantial bodily injury.
According to Kaua‘i police, the driver’s white Nissan sports car hit a man walking along Koloa Road near the Blackstad Road junction. The driver fled the scene around 2:45 a.m., leaving the 24-year-old Kalaheo resident with serious injuries.
A radio listener yesterday afternoon heard Kaua‘i Police Department’s public plea for clues on the case and called in information that led to his arrest.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspected car driving away toward Kalaheo after the accident, a county news release states. The victim was taken via ambulance to Wilcox Hospital and was later airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center.
