The following individuals recently launched a business, were appointed to a leadership position or honored for their work in the business community:
• Dr. John M. Lu has opened his own practice, Ohana Physician Home Care, to provide quality medical care at home for the whole family. Lu is experienced in the care of children and adults as a family practice physician for 11 years. Lu received training in Texas, is board-certified and is a member of professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Academy of Home Care Physicians. Ohana Physician Home Care is primarily serving the eastern and northern areas of Kaua‘i from Wailua to Ha‘ena. Visits to other areas of can be arranged. The business offers treatment of the following conditions: acute illnesses, management of chronic diseases, routine physical examinations, urgent care for injuries and preventive health care. • Kurt Matsumoto has been named general manager of club and resort operations for the planned club, spa and lodge at Kukui‘ula, the 1,000-acre South Shore luxury resort community currently under development. At Kukui‘ula, Matsumoto will have full executive responsibility for the club, spa and lodge. He will also be responsible for overseeing special community events and programs, as well as the Kukui‘ula’s Lifestyle Team that provides Kaua‘i adventure experiences for homeowners and guests. Prior to joining Kukui‘ula, Matsumoto served as general manager of the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows on the Big Island, where he was responsible for the operation of the 343-room hotel, golf courses and spa. From 1991 to 2000, Matsumoto was vice president of resorts and administration for the Lana‘i Co. Inc., where he directed the operational and financial success of the Lodge at Koele and the Manele Bay Hotel on Lana‘i. In that position, Matsumoto oversaw the operation of two resorts and two 18-hole golf courses. He also served in various executive positions at several Hyatt Hotels properties. Matsumoto was born and raised on Lana’i and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in hotel management from Oregon State University. He is a member of the Kona Kohala Chamber of Commerce board of directors, the Big Island Visitors Bureau board, Kohala Coast Resort Association board and the Hawai‘i Hotel Association board. Matsumoto’s wife, Lyn Utsugi, has family roots on Kaua‘i in the Kilauea area.
