KOLOA — Koloa Lion Donald Quon was a model of patience as he explained to each Koloa School student the proper response on hearing the beep.
Quon and a handful of Lions from the Koloa Lions Club were conducting a vision, hearing and weight/height testing for the school, Thursday.
The Lions also utilized the services of their wives in conducting the testing which, according to Quon, is done when the schools request them.
During Thursday morning’s testing, the wives of the Lions, including former Koloa School health officer Betsy Ludington, helped Kathleen Miyashiro and Kuni Quon with the vision portion while the school’s health personnel conducted the weight and height portion of the testing.
Quon said the Lions Clubs from around the island get together to do this testing for the schools on Kaua‘i.
In addition to Koloa School, Quon said the Koloa Lions Club takes care of Kalaheo School.
The West Kaua‘i Lions Club handles testing of the schools between ‘Ele‘ele through Kekaha. The East Kaua‘i Lions Club takes care of schools in the Central district which includes Wilcox Elementary School and King Kaumuali‘i School.
The Kapa‘a Lions Club handles the schools in the Kapa‘a district and the North Shore Lions Club takes care of Kilauea and Hanalei schools, Quon said.
As far as he is aware, he said the East Kaua‘i, Kapa‘a and North Shore Lions have already finished its testing.
