Veterans Day is a time to remember the past and honor the present. We pay tribute today to the men and women who have served their country in the armed forces, National Guard and Reserves.
On Veterans Day, we affirm our deep gratitude to the men and women who answered the call of duty on behalf of all Americans. Enduring great personal sacrifices, these former service members and their families deserve the appreciation of our entire community. We also pay tribute to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while defending our freedom.
We extend our deepest gratitude to the estimated 120,000 veterans currently living in Hawai‘i who served our country with great honor in the past, and embrace them as part of our island’s ‘ohana
We also acknowledge and appreciate the sacrifices made by our Hawai‘i-based troops currently serving around the world. The price of liberty is paid by the courage of those who fight for the freedoms we enjoy today. Service members protecting our country at home and overseas are true heroes.
The greatness of America is embodied in the bravery and heroism of the men and women of the armed services who stepped forward over the years to face challenges around the world. They kindled the enduring spirit of our nation and strengthened the unity of the American people with their resolve for freedom, justice and democracy.
