Contest to target Kaua’i students
Elementary, middle and high school students on Kaua‘i will have the chance to win cash for the eighth annual $2,000 Kaua’i Island Scholarship Contest, slated to begin Monday.
The contest will be open through Dec. 5, in which students are asked to reflect on how technology has made a difference in their educational experience.
This year’s theme, Education and Technology, will focus on how students have used technology to further their educational goals.
Students from first through twelfth grade are eligible to compete.
First- through third-graders can submit a poster. Written essays are the submission format required for fourth- through sixth-graders, who are asked to complete a 250-word essay. Students from seventh- through ninth-grades are asked to write a 350-word essay, and tenth-, eleventh-, and twelfth-graders can submit a 500-word essay.
Winners will receive the following cash prizes:
· First place: $275
· Second place: $150
· Third place: $75
Additionally, the first 150 students to submit their projects will receive an official Kaua’i Island Scholarship T-shirt.
Entries can be submitted in person or by U.S. Mail. Entries delivered in person will be accepted from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at both Solipsys locations on Kaua’i.
Entries submitted by mail must be sent to the Lihu’e address and must be in the hands of the judges on or before 4 p.m., Dec. 6 to be considered.
