Priscilo V. Aguilar

Priscilo V. Aguilar of Hanama‘ulu died at home on Oct. 26, 2007, at the age of 86. He was born in the Philippines on March 11, 1921, and retired as a truck driver with Lihue Plantation.

He is survived by his longntime companion Dora DelaCruz of Hanama‘ulu; children, Nenita “Nita” (Teddi) Kashima of Puhi, Marilyn (Myles) Sugitan of Hanama‘ulu, Eddie (Roxanne) Dela Cruz of Las Vegas, Natalie (Victor) Morris of North Carolina and numerous grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews in the Philippines.  

Visitation with the family will be held at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church in Lihu‘e on Thursday, Nov. 1, at 9:30 a.m. and services beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Aguilar family with arrangements.


Mary Ruth Baldus

Mary Ruth Baldus died in her home in Koloa on Oct. 12, 2007, at the age of 56.

She is survived by sons Peter VanDyke, Paul (Patty) VanDyke, Joseph (Jenny) VanDyke; grandchildren Caleb, Simon, Isaac, and Julia Lea VanDyke; parents Richard and Angela Baldus; a sister, brothers, nieces and nephews.

Mary was a licensed nurse in the states of Michigan, California and Hawai‘i before retiring to Kaua‘i where she lived since the late 1990s.

Funeral arrangements have been made in her home state of Michigan.

Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Baldus family with arrangements.


Emily Lolita Carvalho

Emily Lolita Carvalho of Kalaheo died Oct. 28, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 72.

Born March 12, 1935, in Lihu‘e, she was a homemaker.

Preceded in death by her husband Salvador “Saba” Cruz Carvalho and her parents John and Frances Lopez and brother Manuel Lopez, she is survived by two sons Michael (Diana) Carvalho of Kalaheo and John (Loreen) Carvalho of Kalaheo; sisters Eva (Albert) Gouveia, Minnie (Ralph) Ramos; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 , at Kauai Bible Church in ‘Oma‘o, where memorial service will be celebrated at noon.

Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.


Linda Louise Johnson

Linda Louise Johnson of Kilauea died on Oct. 23, 2007, at the age of 59.  She was born in Tulare, California.

She is survived by sisters Karen (Jon) Bernard of Hawai‘i and Lorna (Pete) Dreisbach of California; brother David (Joni) Johnson of California; niece Wendy (Steve) Reichenthal and nephew Bill (Sara) Johnson of California.

Private services will be held in California.  Family respectfully requests donations be made to A.R.C. of Kauai, 3201 Akahi St., Lihu‘e HI 96766.

Madeline Medeiros Rodrigues

Madeline Medeiros Rodrigues, of Honolulu, died Oct. 16, 2007, at Hawaii Medical Center West at the age of 78.

Born Aug. 1, 1929, in Kapa‘a, she was a retired nurse and maintenance worker for the city and county.

She is survived by daughters Betty “BJ” Louis, Rosemarie Texidor, Dorothy (Earl) Torres, Paulette Kaiwi; sons Joseph Carveiro Jr., Albert (Mila) Rodrigues Jr.; sister Bernice (Eric) Nordmeier; brother Frank (Violet) Medeiros; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews nd cousins.

Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa, where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Raphael’s Church Cemetery in Koloa.

Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.


Rosemary ‘Rosie’ Bukoski

Rosemary “Rosie” Bukoski, of Koloa, died Oct. 22, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 60.

Born May 9, 1947, on Kaua‘i, she was the owner of Rosie’s Lunch Wagon.

She is survived by mother Elizabeth Bukoski; brothers Frank (Lynn) Bukoski and Sam (Lola) Bukoski; sisters Elaine Panui, Peggy (Davison) McCallum, and Taddy (Joe) Penzetta; hanai siser Charlene “Ulii” Castor; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father Frank Bukoski, brother Kenneth Bukoski and brother-in-law Paul Panui.

Friends may visit from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where services will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m.

Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.


Sigundina Dela Cruz

Sigundina Lagrimas Dela Cruz of Kekaha died on Oct. 23, 2007, at the age of 88. She was born in Mayantoc, Tarlac, in the Philippines.

She is survived by husband Silvestre Dela Cruz of Kekaha; sons Remigio (Evelyn) Dela Cruz of ‘Oma‘o, Rogelio (Sonita) Dela Cruz of Kekaha, Arsenio (Elvira) Dela Cruz of California, and Monico (Rola) Dela Cruz of California; daughters Teresita (Benigno) Guillermo of Hanapepe, Rosita (Jose) Nolasco of California, and Clarita (Andronico) Rafael of California; 22 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may call on Friday, Nov. 2, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and again on Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Theresa’s Church in Kekaha from 8 a.m to 9:45 a.m. where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery.

Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.


Alfredo Ballesteros

Alfredo “Freddie” Ramos Ballesteros of Hanama‘ulu died at home on Oct. 25, 2007, at the age of 85. Born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Feb. 2, 1922, he retired from Lihue Plantation as a truck driver.

He is survived by his wife Marciana; sons Braulio (Priscilla) Ballesteros of California, Welerico (Hyon) Estrada of Lihu‘e, Wilfred (Maile) Ballesteros of Wailua Homesteads; daughters Feli (Myles) Fujimura of Texas, Alma (Kevin) Alexander of California, Manuela “Mela” (Kenneth) Santos of Hanama‘ulu, Erlinda Amorin of California, Lettie (Tom) Ballesteros-Chambers of California, Janet Ballesteros of Colorado, Tasha (Moises) Soria of Germany; three brothers, Antonio Ballesteros of the Philippines, Florencio (Violet) Ballesteros of Hanama‘ulu, Aurelio (Paula) Ballesteros of Lihu‘e; sister Concorcia (Florendo) Melchor Sr. of Kapa‘a; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation with the family will be held at Lihu‘e Lutheran Church on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 9:30 a.m. and services beginning at 10:30 a.m. Family requests casual attire.

Private inurnment will be held at a later date.
