Sophomore setter Desiree Agader had 35 assists in the University of Hawai‘i Hilo’s 3-0 victory over Grand Canyon University as the Vulcans clinched the Pacific West Conference championship Friday night in Hilo.
Hilo beat Grand Canyon 30-22, 30-17 and 30-23. With the win, the Vulcans finish with a perfect PacWest 11-0 record.
“We had perfect passing and the set was perfect, so I can do my job,” hitter Fabiane Seben said in a release.
The sophomore produced 15 kills in 18 attempts.
The team also registered seven service aces and 13 team blocks
Agader, a Waimea High School graduate, was a huge part of the Vulcan’s success this season. Agader walked on to the team last year, and emerged as an asset as a setter.
She received PacWest player of the week honors twice this season, the first in September and the second, earlier this month. Agader led the team in sets by averaging 12.3 a game and is third in defense in terms of digs per game.
Hilo hosted Grand Canyon again last night, however, results were not available by press time. Hilo hosts Hawai‘i Pacific University at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Hilo gym, then follow that by traveling to HPU at 7 p.m., Nov. 10 in Honolulu.
The NCAA Division II regional tournament starts Nov. 15.
