Homecoming is a special time in Waimea, and this year, Malcom and Helena Oyamot of M&H Service were happy to put up blue-and-white instead of Halloween since they’ll be in Las Vegas … if they win, look out, Christmas!
Kulia Kilar of Da Booze Shop (Aunty Lilikoi was unpacking freight in the street!) had the Menehune students helping them decorate, and even Big Save had fancy blue and white material fronting its doors.
Gone are the days of just blue and white ribbons on the bridge … Chanda Takamura had the Waimea Plantation Cottage people string up fancy ribbons garnished with empty water bottles (blue-labels) throughout the coconut grove (it was not a wedding, but homecoming), and even postmaster Donnell Ruiz got the post office decked out. Congratulations to coach Chad Delanoza and the Waimea girls on the KIF volleyball championships .. .the gym was packed to capacity Tuesday night!
Bob Farias Jr. was a double winner this week. Not only was he the East Kaua‘i Water Conservationist of the Year, as president of the Kaua‘i Cattlemen’s Ass’n, he got to officiate Thursdat at the dedication of the cattle facility at the base of the Kalepa mountains. Laurie Ho left her Land Rover at home, and Bill Spitz got to represent Beth Tokioka who was off-island, and the smile on Mike Tresler’s face said it all.
Mayor Bryan Baptiste stayed clean enough to make it back for the county employees council’s annual Spook-tacu-rama that night, too.
