Volunteers are welcome to join Anahola residents who will be undertaking a massive community cleanup project Saturday, said Loke Perreira, one of the kupuna in the Anahola community association.
Perreira said in collaboration with the county, the Department of Hawaiian Homes and several community businesses and organizations, the residents will attempt to clean up the accumulation of derelict cars that have littered the community and the Hawaiian Homes land in Anahola.
Perreira said people interested in helping need to just show up early at the Anahola Clubhouse Saturday.
Stan Morinaka of Kaua‘i Veterans Express is one of the community members who will be contributing both equipment, supplies and manpower to help Perreira and the Anahola residents move the bulky items to one central collection area for disposal.
“I have some drivers who are Hawaiians and we’ll be doing this to show our support for them,” Morinaka said. “The Hawaiians do a lot for us as a community, so this is just one way we can return the favor.”
Morinaka said they plan on getting to Anahola between 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. so they can get things done before the day gets too hot.
