Travis Koga of the Kaua‘i High School junior varsity defense blocked a Kapa‘a High School extra point attempt and Peleku Yasay scored in the final 10 seconds to lift Kaua‘i over Kapa‘a on Friday night 20-14 at Vidinha Stadium.
Kaua‘i escaped a close-call and remains undefeated for the season.
Yasay put Kaua‘i on the boards first early in the game. Davin Chong answered with a touchdown of his own for Kapa‘a. Kapa‘a got the slight edge when it earned 2 points on a safety.
Kaua‘i’s quarterback Trey Shimabukuro launched a 28-yard pass to connect with Arjay Honorato to go up 14-8, with just over two left on the clock.
Kapa‘a’s Davin Chong tied the game with his one-yard run at less than 30 seconds to go in the game. When Koga blocked the kick, it looked as though the game would end in a tie.
Kapa‘a lobbed the kick off which put Kaua‘i in good scoring position. That led to Yasay’s final, unchallenged run and the victory. Kaua‘i remains undefeated
Kaua‘i will play its final game of the season on Friday when the Raiders face the Menehune of Waimea High School at Hanapepe Stadium.
Kick off is set for 5 p.m.
