St. Louis grad Higgins reinstated
OGDEN, Utah — Weber State quarterback Cameron Higgins of Hawai‘i is back under center.
He was reinstated to the team yesterday after prosecutors said there was not enough evidence to charge him with shoplifting, a misdemeanor.
Higgins, a redshirt freshman who started the past two games, and two teammates were cited for shoplifting at the campus bookstore Monday.
Coach Ron McBride suspended them until Weber State learned city prosecutors would not pursue the quarterback.
“In fairness to Cameron, now that he has been cleared in this matter, he has been reinstated to the football team,” athletic director Jerry Graybeal said.
Higgins, a St. Louis graduate, completed 13 of 20 passes for 245 yards and four touchdowns Saturday in a 26-7 victory over Sacramento State, the first win of the season for the Wildcats.
Brendon Doyle is still scheduled to start at quarterback tomorrow at Northern Colorado, but Higgins is expected to play.
The citations against defensive back Marvin Walker and offensive linemen Alex Tupulua, who is also from Hawai‘i and a Wai‘anae graduate, were still being reviewed by prosecutors.
They are freshmen who are redshirting this season.
