With the season almost down to its final stretch, the Waimea High School football team is still watching its back. Waimea hosts Kapa‘a High School tonight at Hanapepe Stadium.
Waimea (2-1 Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation, 6-1 overall) is coming off a loss to Kaua‘i High School (3-1, 5-1) last week and Linoz said they will be looking for redemption tonight.
“Every game we have something to worry about,” said Waimea head coach Kylie Linoz. “Anything can happen at any given time. They’ve got nothing to lose so anything can happen.”
Linoz anticipates that Kapa‘a (0-3, 1-4) will change their plays a little and pass more often.
“Kaua‘i and Kapa‘a haven’t been too successful against us with their running game, so we tried to prepare (the team) to a passing game,” he said.
Kapa‘a’s head coach Steve Kaui has tweaked the offense a little bit, but will most likely go with his regular starters.
“I think we’re going to go with Daniel Lizama and Caleb Sarsona,” he said. “That combination seems to be quite positive for us this week. Sarsona is running well for us and we need to give him the ball a little more.”
Kapa‘a had last week off.
So far this season, Kapa‘a has been outscored 106-14.
“We’ve had good practices and we expect to play well,” Kaui said. “We just have to improve, capitalize on turnovers and score. That’s our goal.”
