Tyler Yates of the Atlanta Braves is not just coming home.
The Koloa-native will be part of the 1st Annual Kauai Baseball Clinic scheduled from 1:45 to 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the Lihu‘e County Park behind the convention hall.
According to Todd Koishigawa, event
co-coordinator, a limited number of participants can take advantage of working with current major and minor league baseball players to help in their personal development of the game.
Koishigawa, who played baseball on Kaua‘i, said he is excited about having a clinic featuring local professional players.
Jim Koishigawa, who at one time headed the Hawai‘i Winter League Baseball on Kaua‘i, said they’ve connected with some of the baseball coaches to help facilitate the event and maximize the number of Kaua‘i players.
Joining Yates will be Maui’s Shane Victorino of the Philadelphia Phillies, Jason Bartlett, shortstop for the Minnesota Twins, Justin Germano, a pitcher for the San Diego Padres, Colt Morton of the San Diego Padres and Shawn Wooten of the Minnesota Twins.
This is a preliminary list of players who are scheduled to be on the coaching staff for the clinic.
Application are available at BattersBoxHawaii.com and must be submitted with a $35 registration fee by Nov. 16.
The application fee will also get the player a clinic T-shirt in addition to being able to work with the professional players.
Checks should be made payable to Victor Yamasaki, 94-300 Makapipipi St., Mililani, HI 96789.
For more information, call Yamasaki at 623-5768, or Koishigawa at 678-0098.
