Australian-born artist Michael Daly will launch his latest exhibition through his international art program called The Lovelink Project. The show features 16 fine art reproductions of works by children and community members. The exhibition promotes international and neighborhood/domestic peace and nonviolence.
“The project promotes the rights of children and under-represented groups by working with people on themed artworks. They are designed for education — to raise collaboration, understanding and esteem,” states a press release.
The reproductions are being called “collector’s items,” and will be on sale at the exhibition. The money raised, along with donations, will be used to fund The Lovelink Project, and ensure its ongoing success.
The exhibition will be held at the Pacific Traditions Gallery, 19 North Pauahi St., in Chinatown, Honolulu, Oct. 5 to Oct. 27. The exhibition’s opening night is part of the First Friday Art Walk, encompassing Chinatown’s art district galleries from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is a free public event.
The Lovelink Project was founded by Daly in New York in 1985. His vision was to produce community art events and art exchanges. The art he produces typically involves large numbers of children and community organizations working together.
Artworks have been produced and exhibited in Hawai‘i and around the world, including New York, Moscow, Australia and even Bosnia.
The Lovelink Project is a not-for-profit business. For more information on the exhibition, contact Pacific Traditions Gallery at 741-4612.
