PUHI — The electricity was scheduled to be turned on, yesterday.
But more than that, Tom Tannery of the YMCA of Kaua‘i hosted members of the Kaua‘i All Girls Rodeo Association who arrived with a check for $4,000.
The funds were derived from a fund-raising post-season rodeo held at the Kealia Arena recently, said Tammy Puu, the KAGRA president.
“All season long we accept checks from community sponsors,” Puu said. “This is one way we can give back to the community.”
The YMCA of Kaua‘i has been a consistent supporter of the KAGRA program throughout the years, and was selected to be the beneficiary of the post-season fun rodeo for this reason, Linda Antipala, the KAGRA recording secretary, said.
Tannery, in accepting the contribution, said that KAGRA is a very visible part of the community, taking part in almost all of the parades hosted by the island, and doing a lot of other smaller community projects that benefit people.
“This was the biggest one we’ve undertaken,” Puu said. “It was a lot of hard work, but when you see what the YMCA of Kaua‘i does for the island, it was all worth it.”
