Waimea’s JV volleyball win sets up a crucial showdown at home tomorrow.
“Kaua‘i has two wins, now,” Bobby Kamakele, one of the coaches for the Menehune girls, said following their 25-23, 25-15, 25-18 win Wednesday night. “If Kapa‘a can get past Kaua‘i on the next outing, everybody will have two wins, if we can get past Saturday.”
Paced by the aggresive court style of outside hitter/middle blocker Brandee Victorino, the Menehune surged ahead to take three straight games, capitalizing on Kaua‘i errors in the process.
“It’s all about who makes the fewest mistakes,” Kamakele said. “After the girls won, I told them ‘That’s what you folks looked like the last time.’”
Kaua‘i had some bright spots, but despite coming close behind solid play from Teal Basquez and Kayla Perez, could not sustain their scoring runs.
Game time for the JV game against Kapa‘a is 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Clem Gomes Gym in Waimea. The varsity contest is scheduled to start about 20 minutes following the JV game, but not earlier than 6:30 p.m.
