KKCR FM Community Radio celebrates 10 years of broadcasting live from their Prince-ville studios with a birthday party from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Church of the Pacific in Princeville.
Live bands and entertainment will include Malama Pono Allstars, Island Grass, Swamp Daddy and Strombus.
The station’s famous birthday cake contest, held in years past, is again scheduled for this event. Anyone may enter a cake, from “tiny to tiered” and creative decorating is encouraged. Deadline for entering cakes is 2:30 p.m. Wonderful prizes have been donated by the community, according to a press release. An auction of cakes to benefit KKCR will start around 3 p.m.
Another special event at the party, beginning at 2:30, will be “Honoring Our Past” with a photo gallery of the very early days of the radio station, recognizing the large group of volunteers who worked four years to make it all happen before getting on air. The party is open to the community of Kaua‘i and folks are reminded to bring a potluck dish to share.
