HANAPEPE — Waimea had a chance to do something they couldn’t do all year in 2006 — get on the scoreboard.
But, despite a strong drive in the fourth quarter, the Menehune drove to the Kaua‘i 6-yard line on a third-and-four situation.
With the clock running against them, the JV Menehune blitzed to the Kaua‘i 1-yard line on a first-and-goal situation at the 3:21 mark.
Four plays later, the pigskin managed to crawl to the 1/2-yard mark against the stingy Kaua‘i defense, and the JV Raiders took a 40-0 win home.
Shea Shimabukuro broke into the scorebooks on a 14-yard scoring reception from quarterback Trey Shimabukuro with 1:48 showing to cap a drive that was set up on the Menehune 35-yard line at the 4:20 mark.
Shimabukuro’s foot, 4-for-6 in point-after kicks, accounted for the final math.
Earlier in the first half, Paleku Yasay tapped paydirt three times with Cameron Largusa adding two touchdowns for the JV Raiders.
With the victory, the junior Raiders chalk up their second straight win behind QB Trey Shimabukuro who threw for five of the six touchdowns.
Waimea will travel to the New Kapa‘a Ball Park on Friday to take on the Kapa‘a Warriors.
Kickoff for the JV contest is 5 p.m. with the varsity contest scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
Anahola Joel Pahukula and his statisticians will be broadcasting the varsity game live on KQNG AM 570.
