A Kaua‘i jury Wednesday found Scott Koth, 36, of Kapa‘a, guilty of one count of terroristic threatening in the first degree, two counts of reckless endangering in the second degree, one count of criminal property damage in the first degree, and one count of assault in the third degree. Judge Randal Valenciano set sentencing for Nov. 29.
Koth faces a maximum sentence of 18 years.
The convictions stem from a 2006 incident on the grounds of Mahelona Hospital. Koth threatened a woman with a gun that was later identified as a “Powerline” BB handgun. After threatening the woman, Koth reversed his vehicle and hit the woman with his driver-side mirror. Koth stopped a short distance away to fix his mirror and then fired back two shots toward the woman, her friend and a 10-month-old baby. No one was injured by the shots, though the woman’s vehicle sustained minor damage.
Koth has prior convictions in California for theft, burglary, possession of controlled substances and carrying a concealed weapon. Koth is also currently facing federal weapons charges, with a trial scheduled to start in Honolulu on Nov. 6.
