“Roadtrip” is an exhibition of all new work by artist Wayne Zebzda. Zebzda is not a purist in his choice of medium — the artist’s sculptures, photographs, drawings, and installations include common objects and debris that a person might drive by on their way to work.
If he finds a busted-up road sign, he might rearrange and rename the recycled item in a way that will give the viewer a different perspective. Zebzda attempts to make art that trips up the viewer’s habitual way of assembling the world.
Zebzda’s new work is meant to create an imbalance in the viewer that is meant to instigate a shift in perspective. Zebzda encourages participants to “Fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride.”
Roadtrip will open tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. will be on display at Timespace Gallery in Hanapepe through Sept. 29. For more information, contact Wayne Zebzda at 635-2250.
Sax player celebrates
50 years of music
Tonight at Shaka Taco’s in Kapa‘a, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. join virtuoso saxaphone player Denny Morouse as he celebrates 50 years of playing his sax.
“There have been times when I’ve had to do other things,” said the musician, “But for the most part I’ve supported myself by being a composer, arranger and producer. There’ll be some fine local musicians and singers joining me too.”
Come share Denny’s blessings, gratitude and joy. He will be playing dance music and also disc jockey some funky rhythm and blues. The entertainment is free and customers are invited to bring their own adult beverages. “I had about nine Kaua‘i High School students at my last gig. I feel great that my music appeals to all ages.”
