Kapa‘a Engine 2, three police squad cars and a flurry of good Samaritans tried to help three injured in a head-on collision around 7:40 a.m. yesterday on Kapa‘a’s bypass road.
In the immediate aftermath of the accident, at least two fellow residents pulled over to try to help one of the seriously injured parties who was bleeding from the top of her head.
Those involved in the accident were all Kaua‘i residents, according to Mary Daubert, county spokeswoman.
According to preliminary reports from police and emergency responders, a 16-year-old female was traveling north on the bypass road in a Honda Accord when she lost control, veered into oncoming traffic and then collided head-on with a southbound vehicle.
The southbound vehicle was driven by a 33-year-old woman who was traveling with a 10-month-old infant.
All three were taken via ambulance to Wilcox Hospital for examination, Daubert said.
Traffic on the bypass road was re-routed for about 45 minutes until both vehicles were towed from the area.
At press time, the extent of the injuries of the drivers and passenger were unconfirmed.
