FORT SHAFTER — Lihu‘e’s Kelli Oride shot a combined score of 141 Monday to win the Girls 13-14 division in the 3rd Annual U.S. Army Junior Classic at the Walter J. Nagorski Golf Course over the weekend.
The competition featured 68 of Hawai‘i’s junior golfers aged 11 to 18 years old.
Oride, led the division with a 2-over par 70 in the first round. Oride made three birdies through her first round. Kristen Sawada of Mililani trailed Oride by four strokes after her first round 74.
In the second round, a 3-over par 71 to take home the win. Marissa Chow of Honolulu finished second with 75, 73 for a score of 148. Sawada dropped in the second round to finish third.
Oride also competed in the Girls 15-18 division in which she placed second.
Rae-Lyn Morikawa, also of Lihu‘e, competed over the weekend. Her score of 76, 86 (160) placed her in seventh in the Girls 15-18 division and 12th in the Girls 13-18 division.
On the boys side, Sean Mamaclay of Kapa‘a shot 90, 83 (173) to finish 19th in the Boys 13-14 division. Levi Miyashiro, also of Kapa‘a tied for 12th in the Boys 15-18 division with his score of 75, 73 (148).
Winners in all age divisions will get an invitation to play in the 2007 Tournament of Champions to be held at Wailea Golf Course on Maui in December.
