Youth education group reforms Kaua‘i chapter

Kauai members of Hawaii Association of the Education of Young Children appointed officers Tuesday night as the first step in reorganizing a chapter on-island.

They include Val Rita as chapter president, Sandra Garcia as treasurer, Jerri-Lynn Waters as Kaua‘i representative to the state board, Gina Medrano as president elect, and Wini Tam as secretary.

The next Kaua‘i chapter meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 4. All members as well as those interested in becoming a member are welcome to attend.

Of the 95 Hawaii Association of the Education of Young Children members on Kaua‘i, 12 attended the meeting to discuss whether it was time to move forward to reforming the Kaua‘i chapter, which dissolved to in October 2003 due to a lack of support.

The vision and purpose of the chapter is to bring professional development opportunities to the members on Kaua‘i through workshops offered by speakers.

The organization’s statewide annual Leadership Symposium and Hawaii Early Childhood Conference will be held at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu on Oct. 6 and 7.
