The Department of Water is experiencing problems with one of the water pumping facilities in Kilauea, causing the supply of water in the well to barely meet current demands.
The department requests that Kilauea residents from Waipake to Kalihiwai Bay, including Kilauea Farm Lots, Kilauea town and Kalihiwai Ridge, be diligent about reducing their water usage immediately.
Suggested water conservation includes refraining from washing your cars, reducing your outdoor irrigation and wise usage of water indoors and outdoors. Your cooperation in conserving water will greatly help the department in keeping up with demands while the trouble at the pumping station is being addressed. Updates will be released as more information on the status of the pump becomes available.
For more information, call the Department of Water at 245-5455 during business hours, 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or police dispatch at 241-1711 after business hours.
