The Cadiente sisters led Kaulupono to a 38-30 upset over the top-seeded Kilauea Hui Saturday.
“I don’t know how many points I got, but it seemed like a lot,” Kelsey Cadiente said following their win for the championship of the Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association’s 18 and Under girls league.
Kelsey combined with her sister Kathleen to post 22 of Kaulupono Girls’ 38-point showing, Kelsey finishing with a dozen marks and Kathleen adding 10 points.
Guard Jayme Jacinto followed with 6 points, Aiko Grande added 5 points with Mollie Connelly and Lorrine Lagoc-Agrade finishing with 3 and 2 points, respectively.
The Hui’s low post Kapua Chandler topped the scoring effort with a game-high 17 points for Kilauea. Following her, Kirstie Daly, Kieren Pond and Claire Owens finished with 3 points apiece. Kimiko Kuwabara and Danielle Jure rounded out the effort with a pair each.
Destiny Smith was back on her feet following an injury earlier in the season. Smith finished with a game-high 24 points to lead Wailua to a 33-30 edge over the Lihu‘e Kamikaze for the league’s third place slot.
Chanita Makanui chipped in 6 points and Chelsie Villatora rounded out the victory with 3 points.
Maureen Sibolboro paced the Kamikaze effort with 16 points followed by Lacey Lucas adding 5 points. Kira Taylan contributed 3 points with Jaimee Mariano and Korey Arashiro finishing with pairs. Lauren James and Christina Banach rounded out the effort with a point each.
With school back in session, KYBA takes a break until Aug. 17 and Aug. 18 when it hosts Dennis Onishi and the Piopio Bears from the Big Island who will be visiting with a Girls 15 and Under squad for a series of goodwill games.
