An apparent traffic accident Wednesday in Princeville was a brazen act of vehicular assault between a man and his estranged wife.
At around noon Wednesday, the estranged wife of Gregory Richard Lund, 49, of Hanalei, had just finished work in Princeville and was leaving the area in her Ford sedan. When she reached the junction of Kahaku Road and Pepelani Loop, Lund drove up in a Toyota truck and began ramming her vehicle until it flipped on its side and ended up in a nearby culvert. Both sustained minor injuries. Lund was taken in a Kaua‘i Police officer vehicle to Wilcox Hospital, where he was treated and released. His estranged wife was taken to Wilcox via ambulance, where she was treated and released.
After Lund was released from Wilcox, he was arrested and charged with five counts of criminal property damage in the first degree and one count of assault in the second degree. He is being held at police cellblock in Lihu‘e in lieu of $110,000 bail.
Four patrol officers responded and three members of the traffic division were also called to the scene.
