Vilma Gatchalian
Memorial service for Vilma Gatchalian will be held on Saturday, July 28, at Holy Cross Church. Viewing is from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Mass will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. In celebration of Vilma’s life, program and fellowship will be at Holy Cross Hall after the Mass.
Vilma Paguia Gatchalian, of Gilbert, Arizona, died on May 11, 2007, at Banner Hospital in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 74.
Born in Sorsogon, Philippines, on April 27, 1933, she was a retired optometrist and a long-time Kalaheo resident. She was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church, an active Filipino Catholic Club member, a pioneer of the Misa de Gallo at the parish, a member of the Bailes de Jose Dance Troupe and a member of Kauai Visayan Club.
She is survived by her husband, Solomon Gatchalian, numerous nephews and nieces.
Hideo Oride
Hideo Oride of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on July 12, 2007, at the age of 77. Born in ‘Ele‘ele on May 30, 1930, he was a sales manager with Plumbing Specialties.
He is survived by his wife Edith Y. Oride; sons Dr. Michael (Gail) Oride of Lihu‘e, David (Jo Anne) Oride of ‘Ewa Beach, O‘ahu, Leslie Oride of Hilo; daughter Mia (Gerald) Ako of Lihu‘e; five grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Akagi and Madaline Yamauchi; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, at the All Saints Episcopal Church in Kapa‘a; service at 11 a.m. Casual attire is suggested and that flowers be omitted.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
John Moises
John Moises, of Kapa‘a, died July 15, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 19.
Born May 29, 1988, in Lihu‘e, he was a busboy.
He is survived by parents Juan and Tita Moises; brother Mark Moises; grandmother Jovita Moises and grandfather Antonio Palaroan.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother Severina Palaroan and grandfather Ernesto Moises.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, July 26, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa and again on Friday, July 27, from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Kapa‘a from. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
