There was no room for Brandi.
The daughter of Pam Baligad, the treasurer for Swim Kaua‘i Aquatics, brought to light the fact that there is a need for water safety as Pam said there was no room for her daughter when she tried to enroll the youngster in a swim class.
Pam was speaking with Millie Wellington, a member of the Young Brothers Community Advisory Board. Wellington, along with Wanda Shibata and Jim McDowall, was on hand to present SKA with a grant of $200 on Saturday, the opening day of the SKA’s Makin’ Waves V two-day swim meet at the Kaua‘i High School pool.
“We greatly appreciate the generosity of Young Brothers,” said Stephanie Rogers, SKA team president. “With this grant, we will be able to work with the community to educate our families about water safety.”
SKA is holding its annual water safety clinic in August, and Greg Davis, head coach for SKA, said the funds will help make the event a successful one.
The water safety clinic is provided free to the community with emphasis on the skills needed to be competent in the pool and ocean.
According to an SKA press release, the organization is concerned about improving the skills of Kaua‘i’s residents, and over the past month, Davis and SKA team members volunteered at the county’s swimming lessons at the Kapa‘a pool.
