Carolina Rivera
Carolina “Eling” Benabese Rivera of Pearl City, O‘ahu, died at Straub Clinic and Hospital on July 2, 2007, at the age of 72.
Born in the Philippines on May 13, 1935, she was formerly of Kekaha who loved to crochet and bowl. She was known to be a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by husband, Paustino Rivera; daughters, Carol M. (Wayne) Morimoto and Paula Ann Miyaji of Kihei, Maui; Grandson, Daniel Miyaji of Kihei, Maui.
Visitation will be held on July 18 at Mililani Mortuary mauka Chapel from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wake service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation on July 19 will be at 9 a.m., funeral services to follow at 10 a.m., burial will be at 1 p.m. at Hawai‘i State Veterans Cemetery (Kane‘ohe). Casual attire suggested and flowers are welcome.
Yolanda R. Schredder
Yolanda R. Schredder, 52, died July 10, 2007, at her home in Koloa.
Born Oct. 27, 1954, in Indonesia, she was a homemaker.
She had a heart of gold, and she loved and cherished children. She offered help to anyone in need, especially those less fortunate. Her generosity was endless.
Yolanda was a devoted, loving wife and mother for 24 years. Yolanda loved and cherished her son, Kalani Boy. Kalani was her most prized and treasured worldly gift. Yolanda was a super homemaker. She leaves with us memories of her bright and outgoing presence and her beautiful smile. She was thoughtful to her friends and family.
Yolanda met her husband in California 25 years ago and soon after married in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to Kaua‘i and raised their son. The remarried in Kukui‘ula. We will all miss her very much, May her soul rest in peace and may her journey be joyous and smooth.
She is survived by her husband, Greg Schredder; son, Kalani Schredder; sisters Olinda Robbertze and Ineke (Grary) Kennedy; two nieces and one nephew.
A celebration of her life will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Kukui‘ula Small Boat Harbor.
Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kaua‘i Mortuary.
Yukuma Hayashi
Yukuma Hayashi of Lihu’e died at Garden Isle Health Care on July 5, 2007, at
the age of 96.
Born in Lihu’e, on May 5, 1911, he retired from Lihue Sugar Plantation as a senior laboratory analyst.
He is survived by his wife Yoshiko; son Glenn Hayashi of Lihu’e; daughter Marlan (David) Nashiwa of O’ahu; two grandchildren, one great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Hayashi family with arrangements.
Emmaline Hooikaika
Emmaline “Emma” Helen Hiilei Hooikaika of Anahola died at home on July 11,
2007, at the age of 69.
Born in Koloa on Feb, 10, 1938, she was a dedicated homemaker besides being employed as a waitress at Coco Palms Hotel and Hanalei Plantation.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard K. Hooikaika in 1979; her long time companion James K. Reyes in 2006; two granddaughters Hiilei Hooikaika and Tiffany Medina; one great-granddaughter Kayla Kaauwai; two brothers Samuel “Sonny” Kane and Arthur Poli.
She is survived by six children Desiree “Kui” (Phil) Tung Loong of Kapa’a, Ahkem (Catalina) Hooikaika of Catalina Island, Frank (Ulu) Hooikaika of Anahola, Elizabeth “Liz” Hooikaika of Anahola, Lynette “Lehua” (Don) Hooikaika-Medina of Wailua, Billy (Ellen) Hooikaika of Anahola; step-children, Brian Reyes, Blaine (Maile) Reyes, Barrett Reyes, Marlene Silva, Roxanne Silva; seven siblings Alice (Yoshio “Cheetah”) Kaneshiro of Kekaha, Lilly Christian of Kapa’a, Ahkem (Roslyn) Tung Loong of California, Melvin Tung Loong of California, Charlotte (Ben) May of Tennessee, Douglas “Boogie” Tung Loong of Arkansas, Marvin Tung Loong of California; aunts, Emily Smith of Kapa’a, Alfreida Hanano of Koloa; 22 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Aug. 5, at Kauai Veterans Center in Lihu’e with times to be announced at a later date. Cremation to follow.

Helen Texeira Rego
Helen Texeira Rego died Dec. 3, 2006, in Hayward, Calif., at the age of 84. Born Nov. 11, 1922, in Lihu‘e, she moved with her family to California in 1958. She is survived by children Roger (Ann) Rego, Paula (John) Kilmurray, and Alison (Rob) Phillips, all of California; grandchildren Steven, Susan, Ellen, Heidi, Anthony, Paul, Kenna and Michael; great-grandchildren Makayla, Joshua, Gabriela, Nathaniel, Chloe, Megan, Ashley, Stevie Renee, Andrew, Jakob and Manuel; great-great-grandchildren Johnny and Jayla; brother George (Rosemarie) Texeira of Hanama‘ulu; sisters Hilda Burns of California and Violet Diaz of Honolulu; nieces and nephews.
There will be a graveside service for the burial of her ashes at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Kapaia on Wednesday, July 18, at 11:30 a.m.
Florencio C. Cabradilla
Florencio C. Cabradilla of Lihu‘e died July 12, 2007, at Garden Isle Healthcare Center at the age of 66. Born Dec. 22, 1942, in the Philippines, he was a health aide.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Cabradilla; son Espergene A. (Jeanne R.) Manalo; daughters Flordeliza Cabradilla and Filipina Cabradilla; brother Jose Cabradilla; sisters Carnelis Tolentino and Josephine Tejada; numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, July 18, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where service will begin at 7 p.m.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
