Andy Irons cruises past wildcard
Andy Irons comfortably defeated wildcard Warwick Wright in Round 3, Heat 9 of the Billabong Pro at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, but not before watching world No. 1 Mick Fanning do the same to his wildcard foe the heat prior.
“I watched what Mick is doing,” Irons said in a release. “I watch his surfing like I used to watch Kelly’s but I try not to let it affect me too much and I don’t try to do what they’re doing because I’m not them. I am a different surfer and I will probably fall or dig rail surfing like them. It definitely motivates me to try harder in my heats though.”
Andy’s brother, Bruce, is scheduled to surf today against Brazil’s Adriano de Souza.

Hilo 4, Kaua‘i 3
HILO — A homerun at the bottom of the eighth inning by Hilo ended Kaua‘i’s run for a PONY baseball state championship. Hilo won, 4-3.
The game went scoreless in the first, but quickly came to life when a Hilo batter blasted the teams first homerun of the game. Kaua‘i answered in the third inning when Jordan Kitabayashi doubled, stole second and third base, then scored. Hilo would score again in the fourth.
Then in the fifth, in what was like a repeat play of the inning, Kitabayashi got on base again, stole second and third, again, then scored to tie the game.
Kaua‘i’s Gavin Jardin hit a solo homerun in the sixth which was then answered by another Hilo homer.
The game, well into extra innings ended with Hilo’s final homer.
