Lifeguards closed Salt Pond Beach Park yesterday at 2:30 p.m. after a shark was sighted, said county public information officer Mary Daubert.
The South Shore area at the park is a favorite of residents and visitors alike for its swimming areas protected by outlying reefs.
“Lifeguards closed the beach for the rest of the day (Sunday) after they spotted a 6-foot shark swimming near Salt Pond,” Daubert said.
Lifeguards will arrive at the beach this morning and assess the situation before determining whether to reopen the beaches at Salt Pond Beach Park.
