After 11 years of providing unique, antique and shabby chic treasures, Kapa‘a consignment boutique Comforts of Home and its sister shop Keiki Kottage will close their doors on Saturday.
Owner Holly Schunk said keeping the business open for the last year has “been a real struggle,” as she has been dealing with a traumatic brain injury from a car accident last July.
Last July, Schunk was rear-ended on Kuhio Highway by a visitor driving 45 mph as she waited to turn left into the store’s parking lot. The resulting brain injury has resulted in chronic nausea, headaches, dizziness and cognitive problems, for which Schunk is now seeking specialized treatment out-of-state.
“The store hasn’t run normally for over a year,” said Schunk from a hospital in California.
While staff have manned the store in Schunk’s absence, her husband noted that business is just not the same.
“She is the store,” Rich
Schunk said in a previous interview.
Schunk extended her thanks to the employees who manned the store when she couldn’t be there and said she will really miss the interaction with customers, who often became friends.
“All the years, I’ve so enjoyed meeting all the moms and children and attending baby showers and getting to know wonderful families,” Schunk said.
All items in the plantation-style shop will be marked down and on sale through July 7, including antiques, furniture and children’s clothing.
