Keli‘i Dias’ mom said they’ve been here from Maui twice in as many weeks since Keli‘i was participating in the HSJGA Sectionals last week and is one of the golfers in the 2007 Westfield ASPGA Jr. Championships that wrapped up at the Princeville Golf Course. She said they’ve got five more trips scheduled here before the end of the season.
Hannah Delany of Kenai High School in Alaska read about the Speed and Quickness volleyball clinic in TGI and was on hand with her parents at the clinic at Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School.
Jory Jasper and Jaymie Jimenez were also there, honing their skills for the upcoming Kaua‘i Challenge Aug. 9-11.
Wayne Doliente, one of the KIF volleyball referees, said there are at least a dozen high schools coming from California as well as schools from O‘ahu and the Big Island. That tournament has grown to where games are played at all three high schools with the finals taking place at the Raiderdome. And, Wayne was good enough to invite Hannah to work out with the girls after the clinic, too.
Calvin Paleka was at the clinic to pick up the gear so Roy Nishida could have a nice trip to the Lions convention. Kelvin Moniz took advantage of some time off to check in at the clinic as well.
Hats off to Doug Sears, Stella Burgess, Teresa “Princess Mulan” Iida, Diann Hartman, and all the Grand Hyatt ‘ohana on doing a bang-up job for the Make-A-Wish bon voyage party! From there, it was a quick hop to the Sheraton where Dickie Chang was kicking off the Wednesday night luau!
