Five graduating seniors from four high schools received 2007 scholarships presented by the Kaua‘i Community Federal Credit Union, recently.
Carolyn Hoeckmann-Percival and Shantal Guirao were the recipients from Waimea High School. Georgialynn Degracia was the recipient from Kaua‘i High School and Stephanie Kawamura was selected from Kapa‘a High School. Billy Troy Wooton was the recipient from Kula High School.
Each student received a $1,000 scholarship to help with higher education goals, states a press release from KCFCU.
Hoeckmann-Percival will be heading to Smith College of Massachusetts while Guirao, Kawamura and Wooton are planning to attend the University of Hawai‘i at Mano‘a. Degracia is enrolled at the Brigham Young University, Hawai‘i.
Students were selected by an independent Scholarship Committee based on academic merit, community service, credit union relationship and financial need. The committee is made up of highly-respected education professionals on the island and evaluated more than 20 applicants.
This is the third year KCFCU has offered scholarships to graduating high school seniors as part of its new “Your Choice Youth” program.
