After allegedly making himself at home by eating, drinking and then stealing several items, a homeless man was arrested on first-degree burglary charges this weekend after he was found inside a Lihu‘e home.
David Aguiar, 38, was arrested on two counts of burglary after allegedly breaking into two homes between 12:30 and 4 a.m., Friday, on Ohi Ohi Street.
Capt. Ale Quibilan said witnesses observed Aguiar in each of the residences. They later positively identified him.
“David Aguiar basically made himself at home at the two residences,” Quibilan said. “He ate snacks and other food items, drank sodas and other drinks, then took some clothing and left the first house.”
When Kaua‘i police officers arrived, he was inside the second house, watching TV, Quibilan said.
He was found, “making no attempt to flee, but came to the door after officers knocked on it and announced themselves.”
Aguiar was arrested and booked and did not post bail over the weekend.
He is being held in cellblock in lieu of $10,000 bail, and was arraigned in court yesterday.
Police are still investigating several other burglaries that occurred in the Kapa‘a and Kalaheo areas in the past two months.
