Yesterday saw three car accidents on the island, two of which occurred on Kuhio Highway, according to county spokesperson Mary Daubert.
The first, a rear-end collision, happened at 6:48 a.m. near Kaua‘i Nursery and Landscaping on Kuhi‘o Highway. Both vehicles were heading east when the car in front stopped. The car behind didn’t, Daubert said via e-mail.
The female driver of the first vehicle was taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital. Her condition was unknown as of press time. The male driver of the rear vehicle did not require medical treatment.
The second accident occurred at 11:13 a.m., also on Kuhio Highway, near Coconut Marketplace when a southbound vehicle attempted to make a left onto Papaloa Road and crashed into car heading north in outermost lane.
Joshua Parks, 28, of Kapa‘a, was the driver of southbound vehicle. Parks had to be extracted by Fire Department personnel. He was taken to hospital, and his condition was unknown as of press time.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, Leanne Padasdao, 23, of Koloa, did not require medical treatment, Daubert said.
A third accident involved three vehicles near the ‘Ele‘ele Nani subdivision at 2:47 p.m.
According to Daubert, two vehicles and a FedEx truck were heading east when the truck stopped waiting to make a left turn. The car behind the truck stopped, and the last car plowed into the middle car, turning the car’s wheels and causing it to crash into oncoming traffic. Everyone refused medical treatment. Traffic was re-directed through ‘Ele‘ele Nani for about 15 minutes, Daubert said.
