Saddle up at the Kaua‘i Museum on Saturday for Ohana Day, with free admission and a special presentation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. of “Paniolo Style Saddle Making,” featuring Stanley Valoroso.
This is a rare opportunity to learn the craft from a true paniolo, or Hawaiian cowboy. The trails surrounding Valoroso’s home provide the wood for the base of the saddle, and his maile and mokihana leaf design adorn the leather covering.
Valoroso is one of the few willing to share his knowledge on this subject with graciousness and humor.
Come and see his modern day application of an old-time art.
