Vilma Paguia Gatchalian of Gilbert, Ariz., died on May 11, 2007, at Banner Hospital in Mesa, Ariz., at the age of 74.
Born in Sorsogon, Philippines, on April 27, 1933, she was a retired optometrist and a long-time resident of Kalaheo. Vilma was a parishioner of Holy Cross Church and a very active Filipino Catholic Club member, a pioneer of the Misa de Gallo at the parish, a member of the Bailes de Jose Dance Troupe and a member of Kauai Visayan Club.
She is survived by her husband, Solomon Gatchalian, numerous nephews and nieces.
Memorial services will be held on Kaua‘i at a later date.
Jennie Nina Riola
Jennie Nina Riola of Kilauea, died May 10, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 83.
Born in Long Island, NY, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Arthur “Art” Riola of Kilauea; daughter Donna (Lester) Riola Gottlied and son Philip (Marianne) Riola; grandchildren Wesley, John and Sydney; and numerous brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, at St. Sylvester’s Church in Kilauea, where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Scattering of ashes at ‘Anini Beach to follow.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
