HANAPEPE — Robert Head caught a popped up ball to run for a 75-yard touchdown for the white team at Waimea High School’s blue and white game last night.
Trailing, the white team almost scored again with 41 seconds left of the game when Cody Owen intercepted the ball at the 11-yard line.
The blue team, led by quarterback Jayrald Watanabe, who scored two touchdowns on the night, would go on to win 17-12.
Fans hit the stands early or sat on their personal lawn chairs as to sit on the grass for a closer view of the game. With boxed dinner in hand, everyone watched the game at the chilly Hanapepe Stadium.
The game was the school’s annual spring football and fundraiser game. According to the Waimea’s athletic director Jon Kobayashi, nearly 1,200 tickets were sold pre-game day.
