UH upsets UCLA

Brandi Peiler came through with a bases-loaded double in the eighth inning to advance to the Los Angeles Regional championship today.

Peiler drove in Clare Warwick and Tyleen Tausaga to topple top-seeded UCLA 3-1.

Kate Robinson (16-1) earned the win with her 16th complete game in 2007.

The win over the Bruins is Hawai‘i’s second straight extra-inning victory after the Rainbow Wahine defeated UC Santa Barbara 2-0 in 10 innings Friday. The ‘Bows are now 4-2 in extra-inning games.

Following five scoreless innings, the Rainbow Wahine mounted a rally starting with Kaulana Gould getting her second hit of the game. Tausaga followed with a blooper single to centerfield and Robinson hit a third straight single to load the bases for Peiler who drove in Gould on a sacrifice to open up the books.

UCLA answered when Tara Henry singled to left and scored on a Jodie Legaspi RBI single up the middle.

With no scores in the seventh, the contest went into extra frames to set the stage for Peiler.
