Neighbor Island teams featured in Memorial Day hoops
Four Neighbor Island girls 14 and Under teams will be competing against their Kaua‘i counterparts over the Memorial Day weekend.
These teams will be coming from O‘ahu, Maui and the Big Island for the 4th Annual Kaua‘i Youth Basketball Association’s Girls 14 and Under invitational basketball tournament, said Karen Matsumoto of KYBA.
The three-day tournament kicks off May 25 with four games starting at 5 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Bobby Kamakele and the Kaulupono “W” team will host Kalama, a team from Makawao, Maui, coached by Donald Shepherd.
Kamakele and the Kaulupono Girls “B” team will host WMS Na Paniolo Wahine, a team from Kamuela, in the 6 p.m. contest. Na Paniolo is coached by the team of Shelby Santos and Sherri Takamoto.
At 7 p.m., May 25, Keven Hanano and the Lihu‘e Kamikaze host Lokahi Wahine from Kailua, Kona. Shannon Poe coaches that squad.
The final contest on May 25 will have Cecil Gee and the Gee’s Angels play host to Ikaika Basketball from Honolulu.
Following the opening day, teams will advance to bracket play on May 26 with games starting at 10 a.m. at Kalaheo.
Championship play starts at 10 a.m., May 27 with the title game tipping off at 1 p.m.
There is no admission to view the competition.
Kaua‘i Cup semis
this Sunday
Kryptonite, the defending Kaua‘i Mens Soccer Association champions, will meet After Burners in the semifinals for the Kaua‘i Cup this Sunday.
Starting time for the this game is 5 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
Hanalei, currently ranked first in the league, will be taking on Cane Fire in the second game scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
There is no admission fee to view the games, but a calabash will be available for donations.
The finals for the Kaua‘i Cup is May 27 at Vidinha Stadium.
Lihue Pop Warner gearing up for tackle and cheer season
The Lihue Pop Warner Association will be accepting completed registrations for the upcoming tackle and cheer program.
All returnees should turn in their completed registration forms including all fees this Monday and Tuesday at the Lihu‘e Neighborhood Center from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Completed registrations and fees for newcomers will be accepted on Thursday, May 31 at the Lihue Neighborhood Center from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

KAGRA celebrates Mother’s Day
The Kauai All-Girls Rodeo Association celebrated Mother’s Day with an action rodeo on Sunday. The event began with a memorial to Annette Mundon, the mother of rodeo riders Sheri Carveiro and grandmother of Kelli Carveiro.
Kristyn Vasconcelles was named All-Around Cowgirl with the highest point total for the day. Penny Miranda was second in points and won the Reserve All-Around title.
The next KAGRA rodeo is scheduled for Aug. 26.
