Marriott celebrates May Day with exhibit and contest

Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club’s Fourth Annual 2007 May Day Celebration will feature a lei contest, Hawaiian cultural exhibits and crafters. Under the direction of Troy Allen Lazaro, Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club food and beverage manager at the Kiawe Grill Restaurant, the May Day Lei Contest will be open to the public with judging and prizes. There are six categories:

Haku lei — 12-inch braid or wili style untied

Yellow lei — 70 percent of yellow color, dried or fresh plants

Purple lei — 70 percent of purple color, dried or fresh plants

Green lei — 70 percent of green color, dried or fresh plants

Flower lei — 22 inch long, sewn with needle and thread, tied

Recycled lei — A lei made of something other than a plant, 22 inches long, tied

“We welcome visitors and Kama‘aina to come and take part in our lei contest, browse through our crafters and cultural exhibits as well as view demonstrations of Makahiki games,” writes Sandra Muragin at the Marriott, “as in past years we will be taping into the many talented Associates that work here at our resort to create a memorable experience for all to enjoy.”
