Leilani Bond is heading to Reno for a ho‘ike there. She said they are leaving Wednesday for a weekend ho‘ike as they’ve been doing for 14 years … should be a lot of fun!
Leilani was one of the many before-the-weekend shoppers at Wal-Mart Thursday night … Eric Rita had his ‘ohana in tow, Anahola Joel Pahukula was checking out the new things in the store, and coach Ipo Yoshioka was stocking up for the Friday golf matches at Kiahuna. There were so many local people getting ready for the weekend, even Janie Whitehead was working!
Hats off to coach Dave Walker and all those Rotarians from the West Kaua‘i Rotary Club on a great 60th Rotary Track Meet. Liz Hahn had to do timing duties, so no camera this time! Rhoda Libre still had her voice after rendering the national anthem from the PMRF change of command the day before, and Ross Shimabukuro had to become a race official, so no football meeting for him … Dave knows the value of a trainer like Keith Burgess, too!
Meanwhile, Colleen McCracken was patiently waiting to see if daughter Kirsten was actually going to be able to run a race before having to catch a plane to Honolulu where they will be doing hockey.
Speaking of waiting, chatting with the Gary Kitabayashi and Malcolm Ikeda ‘ohana between races was the perfect excuse to get a different angle on the finish of the 100-yard dash. Gary was well-equipped with all those Ishihara Market pupu to help pass the time.
