Shanda Navarro
Shanda Faye Navarro of Kilauea died on March 30, 2007, at the age of 44.
Born in Seattle, Wash., on Aug. 14, 1962, she was a self-employed hairdresser and cosmetologist.
She is survived by her husband Patrick Navarro; son Kevin McGuire-Navarro; daughters Carmia Rios and Kandice Navarro, all of Kilauea; mother Margie Winston; sisters Laurie Seehorn, Michelle Rios, Tanya Hell, Evie Hell, and Tannee Hell, all of Seattle; brothers Doug Seehorn of Seattle and Greg Seehorn of California; and granddaughter Kalehua Yokotake.
Services will be held at a later date.
Kauai Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Philip Demerin
Philip Demerin died at Kuakini Medical Center on O‘ahu on March 18, 2007, at the age of 84.
Born in Kilauea on March 30, 1922, he was a pineapple field and hotel maintenance worker, and was known for his skill in sewing crab nets and his love of singing.
Philip is survived by nephews Peter Aquino, Albert Aquino, Richard Aquino, David Aquino, and James Aquino; nieces Theresa Newsom, Carmen Young, Virginia “Cookie” Zywot and Mary Daubert; nephews Rio Demerin and Don Demerin; niece Mary Dale Demerin; nephews Ronald Demerin, Anthony Demerin, and Hubert Demerin; nieces Frances Anthony and Mary M. Demerin; nephews Alex Riola, Arthur Riola, Anthony Riola, Larry Riola, and Frank Riola; niece Sylvia Wong; nephews Larry Vito and Joe Vito; niece Beatrice Narciso; sisters-in-law Magdalena Demerin and Frances Demerin; and numerous grand nephews and nieces.
Memorial services will be held at St. Catherine’s Church on Saturday, April 14, with visitation from 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m., and Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery.
Aloha attire is suggested.
Frances Thomas
Frances Thomas of Kapa‘a died March 29, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 84.
Born Feb. 4, 1923, in Hawai‘i, she was a homemaker.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband Alexander Thomas, sister Cynthia Machado, and brother Manuel Soares, she is survived by brother Antone “Tony” Soares of Scottsdale, Ariz., and sister Helen B. Souza of Honolulu; children Stephen (Sheilah) Thomas, Dennis Thomas, Valerie Thomas and Jeffery (Norma) Thomas; grandchildren Nicole (Troy) Waialeale, Brandon Thomas, Dawn (Kenneth) Cummings, Cherisse Thomas, Brian Thomas, Christin (Juan) Abrego, Joseph (Cammy) Thomas, Kathleen (Ludt) Dakamas, Juston Thomas, Blake Moura and Megan Moura; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many loved ones who shared in her life.
Friends may visit with the family from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Monday, April 9, at Immaculate Conception Church where Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Father Bill.
Burial to follow at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
