Big wave surfers will have to wait yet another year.
Organizers for the Mavericks Surf Contest at Half Moon Bay, Calif., called off the competition last Friday. They cited mild winter weather conditions as the reasons for the wave’s not reaching their 40-wave heights.
The Mavericks competition had been dubbed the “Super Bowl of surfing.” Organizers hope Pacific storms will rage next year, making it possible to hold the competition. Twenty-four surfers are invited to surf.
Invitations should be out late this year.
