That is one of the intents of the county’s 14 and Under boys basketball team, and in Laukona’s 66-27 win over Kaulupono in Game 2 Monday, every player but one on Laukona’s roster scored.
Kaulupono had all players but two net buckets in the effort as well.
In Game 1, the Gee Unit also had scores tagged onto each of the players who showed up in its 46-16 win over Island Athletics who posted a strong defensive effort, but succumbed to the overwhelming numbers of the Gee Unit.
VJ Carineo topped the Unit scoring with a game-high 14 points followed by Donovan Harrison, one of the smaller (in size) players, posting 8 points. Winston Gee and Adam Clark each finished with 6 points. Keoni Kinzie limited his scoring to the first half for 4 points,, and three Unit players finished with pairs. Kyle Lee posted his pair in the final period, Brendon Tillet came up with his pair to open the second half and David Kanoho posted his pair in the final period.
Despite having only three players mark the scorebooks, Island Athletics showed improved play from Brandon Taylor and Brenna Wortman who anchored the Athletics’ defensive efforts.
Guard Maleana Ladesma finished with 6 first-half points followed by Taylor posting 5 points including a 3-for-6 showing at the charity stripe. Todd Hirano came alive in the second half, posting a trey in the fifth period and was 2-for-2 at the charity stripe.
Cody Morden sparked the Laukona effort with a game-high 20 points, 16 coming in the first half. He was aided in the scoring by Davone Flores finishing with 16 points, leading Laukona by netting 10 of 17 team points in the opening period. Ernest Fernandez followed with a dozen points to round out the scoring leaders.
Cameron Largusa was the only Laukona player who did not mark, but provided the spark for defense with numerous blocks, rebounds and feeds.
Ariel Lahip sparked the Kaulupono effort with 6 points followed by Jonathan Tangalin and Neil Magayanes each netting 4 points. Paul Oligo Jr. and Kaili Lagundino each finished with three, and pairs from Garrett Cadiente, Chase Parongao and Brandon Palacio rounded out the effort.
In games played on the final Saturday of the season, Kainoa Colipano netted 18 points to lead C-Town to a 44-26 win over the Gee Unit. Austin Simao added a dozen points and Bransen Agu finished with 6 points to help out C-Town.
Adam Clark led the Gee Unit with 10 points followed by Winston Gee and Dayton Bayot adding 9 and 5 points, respectively.
Lagundino was the high-pointer in Kaulupono’s 48-32 edge over Wailua in the second contest. Lagundino netted a game-high 13 points followed by Lahip contributing 11 points and Parongao adding 9 points in the win.
Bradley Coloma topped the Wailua effort with 7 points followed by Mark Hatchell and William Rabot finishing with 6 and 5 points, respectively.
