Two men impersonating police officers threatened a man with a machete and robbed him yesterday morning near ‘Anini Road.
Officials at the Kaua‘i Police Department said the man was asleep in his tent near the campgrounds at ‘Anini Beach Park when he was awakened around 2:45 a.m. by two males who claimed to be police officers.
The impersonators were not in uniform and lacked police identification.
One of the suspects pointed a machete at the victim and shined a flashlight in the man’s face. The other rifled through the man’s belongings. The two suspects then drove off after stealing several items, including a camera, an ID and a bank card.
The case is under investigation and anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Detective Glenn Morita at 241-1685 or Crime Stoppers at 241-1887.
