Alfredo Carbonel
Alfredo Itabac Carbonel of ‘Oma‘o died March 11, 2007, at his home at the age of 86.
Born Nov. 2, 1920, in Salomaque, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, he retired as boiling house supervisor for McBryde Sugar Plantation and was the owner of Koloa Cultural Center. He was an avid fisherman and the last surviving member of Koloa Landing’s “Filipino Outrigger Canoe Fishing Club.”
He is survived by his wife, Aida Carbonel of ‘Oma‘o; sons Alfredo (Ruth) Carbonel and Albert (Tina) Carbonel, both of ‘Oma‘o; daughters Lorraine (Mike) Schmidt of Maui; and Arlene (Adolfo) Carbonel-Santana of Lawai; sisters Flora Serrano and Adelina (Luis) Rivad, both of Kaua‘i; brother Daniel (Vicky) Carbonel of O‘ahu; Ernesto (Dolores) Carbonel and Rudolfo (Maria) Carbonel, both of Kaua‘i; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Friend may visit with the family on Friday, March 30, at Borthwick Kauai Mortuary from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friends may visit again from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, at St. Raphael’s Church, where services will be at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Casual attire is suggested. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.
Placida ‘Cida’ Harper
Placida “Cida” Yadao Silva Harper died March 20, 2007, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at the age of 69.
Born July 5, 1937, in Lawai Valley, she was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Harvey Harper of Lihu‘e; daughters Stella (Rodney) Pimental of Kapa‘a, and Shirley (James) Marques of Kalaheo; sons Mark (Suzanne) Silva of Waimea, Henry (Sandra) Silva of Hilo, Ted (Felina) Silva of Kapa‘a, Ben (Nati) Silva of Kaumakani, and Manuel (Robbyn) Silva of ‘Ele‘ele; 17 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; stepsons Manny (Lorraine) Pretti of California and James Harper of Pakala; brother Daniel Manus of Kalaheo; sisters Violet Gotcher of O‘ahu, Dolores Booth of California, Gloria Kirkland of the Big Island and Judy Balualua of Kekaha; step-mother Rosita Yadao of Kekaha, stepsister Julita Mendoza of Kekaha; stepbrothers Jovan Bautista of Kekaha and Jaime Yadao of ‘Ele‘ele; and numerous other family members.
Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo, where Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by Father Nap. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

Monica Isnec
Monica Isnec of Lihu‘e, died March 19, 2007, at Straub Hospital at the age of 78.
Born May 4, 1938, in the Philippines, she was a dietary clerk for Wilcox Hospital.
She is survived by sons Emmauel Isnec of Lihu‘e and Edgar Isnec of California; daughters Eileen Villatora of Nevada, Estrellita (Bert) Saiki of ‘Ele‘ele, Emeline (Glenn) Aqui of Lawa‘i, and Evangeline (Peter) Hesapene of Lihu‘e; brother Tadeo Tabalba, and sisters Andrea Castro and Juliana Domingo; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, at Borthwick Mortuary Chapel in Koloa, where services will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.
Burial to follow at Lihu‘e Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Borthwick Kauai Mortuary.

Arthur Reizo “Pops” Koide of Honolulu died March 16, 2007, at his home at the age of 71.
Born Dec. 3, 1935, in Lihu‘e, he was a retired carpenter foreman.
He is survived by sons Randall Sr. (Ann) Koide of Honolulu and Bradford Koide of Honolulu; daughters Sherilyn (James) Tamayose of Honolulu, Rochelle King of Honolulu and Michelle (Conrad) Yogi of Honolulu; brother Francis (Hiroko) Koide of Kaua‘i; sister Helen (Felix) Campaniano of Honolulu; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, March 26, at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary; service at 11 a.m. Private graveside service to be held at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park. The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.

Gilbert L. Medeiros Sr.
Gilbert L. Medeiros Sr. of Lihu‘e, died at his home at the age of 75.
Born Feb. 19, 1932, in Koloa, he worked in maintenance for Kaua‘i Surf.
He is survived by his wife, Daisy Medeiros of Lihu‘e; sons Gilbert (Tammie) Medeiros of Koloa and Rodney Medeiros of Lihu‘e; daughters Debra Medeiros of Puhi, and Tammy (Pono) Lanning of Hanama‘ulu; sisters Mary Lou Correa of Kalaheo and Bernice (Stephen) Perreira of Kalaheo; brother Ernest (Gloria) Medeiros of Hanama‘ulu; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
