A tree house was destroyed late Sunday in Moloa‘a after an apparent electrical short sparked a blaze.
“It totaled the tree house,” said Kauai Police Department patrol services Lt. Ale Quibilan.
Fire engines responded to the 9 p.m. blaze from Hanalei and Kapa‘a.
“According to the officer’s briefing this morning, the occupant believes his wiring shorted out and caused the fire,” Quibilan said yesterday.
The occupant was drawing power from the main home on the property through an extension cord, he said.
The total cost of the loss was estimated at $5,000.
Early yesterday a single-vehicle, motorcycle accident closed Waimea Canyon Drive for nearly two hours. A 22-year-old male lost control at the 2 mile marker going up toward the canyon at 6:18 a.m.
“He lost control and hit the guard rail,” Quibilan said. “He was transported to the hospital in serious condition.”
The man was a Kaua‘i resident.
His condition was not known at press time.
