Calling all Kaua‘i bikers … and anyone else who wants to have a great time with their wheels and help a good cause.
Street bikers, mountain bicyclists, classic car enthusiasts, truck and car drivers are invited to join the fun Sunday at the Two Wheels Street Poker Run.
The event will go on rain or shine and feature fun, food, prizes and festivities, according to Two Wheels’ sales manager J.C. Crouch.
In addition, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Kaua‘i volunteer family support group of the Air and Army National Guard.
Crouch said the idea of helping the support group came up after hearing that members of a Kaua‘i unit were heading to Iraq shortly. Reportedly some Kaua‘i guardmembers and another unit from the Mainland will be taking part in a joint mission.
“We remembered the last time Kaua‘i’s National Guard deployed, we heard a lot about how the support group was very active but this time we hadn’t heard anything,” he said.
The idea evolved into the Street Poker Run, which will feature nearly $6,000 worth of lucky drawing prizes including the grand prize of a trip for two to Las Vegas.
Crouch said there will be four designated stops on the Poker Run: Waimea Big Save; Brennecke’s in Po‘ipu; Kauai Harley Davidson in Puhi; and Menehune Food Mart in Kilauea.
“We’re encouraging people who live on the Westside, North and South Shore to stop at the locations in their area on the way in to Two Wheels,” Crouch said.
Collecting a receipt of any amount from all four stops entitles them to get the fifth card for the poker hand back at Two Wheels. Top three hands win money and gift prizes.
Check-in for the event starts at 8:30 a.m. at Two Wheels in Kapa‘a with the actual ride starting at 10 a.m.
A portion of the $10 donation will go to the Guard support group. There will also be a $5 per entry lucky drawing. Crouch said there is an “unbelievable” list of prizes including gift certificates, bike rentals, T-shirts, rounds of golf, and, of course the grand prize from Two Wheels, a trip for two to Las Vegas, Reno or San Diego, with 100 percent of the proceeds drawing to go to the National Guard group.
